• Jessica Xu, Clements High School

  • Jessica is a senior at Clements High School who completed her mentorship under Dr. Guangyu Wang, Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences at Houston Methodist Research Institute. She researched the manual annotation of spatial transcriptomic data from cancer tissue samples to train an AI segmentation model capable of identifying spatially distinct regions of similar gene expression, advancing efforts to better understand tumor microenvironments and variable patient responses to treatment. Jessica is involved in Student Council, Girls in Computing, Junior Achievement, National Chinese Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Computer Science Club. Outside of school, she enjoys volunteering at her church’s Food Fair program and watching horror movies. Her favorite cohort memory was watching everyone open their Secret Santa gifts! In the fall, Jessica will be majoring in computer science and business at University of Texas at Austin.
