• Nathan Hernandez, Austin High School

  • Nathaniel “Nathan” Hernandez is passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare, with a strong interest in serving others. Throughout his time at Austin High School , Nathan has been actively involved in leadership and service. He works as a personal home health caretaker for a lifelong friend, Penny Powell, gaining firsthand experience in patient care. On weekends, he is involved in his church as a youth leader and usher, mentoring younger students. In school, he serves as the editor-in-chief of his school newspaper, President of Quill and Scroll Honor Society, President of the Broadcasting Team, staff photographer for the yearbook, and as a previous officer of the Speech & Debate Team. In addition, he ran a non-profit “Peace of Cake” with his peers, doing bake sales to raise money for psychiatric needs. Through the GT Mentorship program, Nathan has developed a deeper understanding of the medical field and the importance of compassion, professionalism, and communication in healthcare. He plans to attend college in California, where he will study nursing on the pre-med track. His favorite memories from the cohort were building strong relationships with peers, talking for hours in the car, and with mentors while learning from real-world experiences in the field.
