Student Biography

Abinav Derireddy is currently a senior at Dulles High School. During his high school career, Abinav served as the Captain of the Varsity Golf team, competed on the Varsity Policy Debate Team and Science Olympiad Team, and was a Science National Honor Society member. In Science Olympiad, Abinav won second place in the Machines and Thermodynamics regional events and advanced to compete at state-wide competitions. Additionally, Abhinav is an AP Scholar with Distinction and National Merit Commended Student.. As a part of GT Mentorship Abhinav, was mentored at DBR Engineers in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineering. During this experience, Abhinav has learned the importance of collaboration between different departments in engineering. Abhinav notes that although engineering is often perceived as a not communication-dependent field, he saw that company functionality necessitates communication across departments. Furthermore, Abhinav has learned terminology used to communicate with other engineers, how to read MEP site plans, and how to make changes to them so the occupants are satisfied with the building they are in. In the fall, Abinav plans to matriculate at Texas A&M studying Mechanical Engineering. He hopes to utilize the information from his GT Mentorship experience in his future exploring various fields of engineering.
