    ELECCIÓN DE LA JUNTA ESCOLAR INDEPENDIENTE FORT BEND

    AL 3 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 2020)

     

    By Proclamation of the Governor of the State of Texas, dated March 18, 2020, political subdivisions are authorized to postpone their May 2, 2020 elections to the November 3, 2020 uniform election date due to the state of disaster caused by the novel coronavirus. (Por la Proclamación del Gobernador del Estado de Texas, fechada el 18 de marzo de 2020, las subdivisiones políticas están autorizadas a posponer sus elecciones del 2 de mayo de 2020 a la fecha de elección uniforme del 3 de noviembre de 2020 debido al estado de desastre causado por el nuevo coronavirus.)

     

    Fort Bend Independent School District is exercising this authority to postpone its May 2, 2020 election to November 3, 2020. (El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Fort Bend está ejerciendo esta autoridad para posponer su elección del 2 de mayo de 2020 al 3 de noviembre de 2020.)

    Candidate filings submitted for the May 2, 2020 election will remain valid for the election held on the November date. The candidate filing period will not be re-opened for the November 3, 2020 election. (Las presentaciones de candidatos presentadas para las elecciones del 2 de mayo de 2020 seguirán siendo válidas para las elecciones celebradas en la fecha de noviembre. El período de presentación de candidatos no se volverá a abrir para las elecciones del 3 de noviembre de 2020.)

    Applications for a ballot by mail for voters that are voting by mail due to being over the age of 65 or due to disability will still be valid for the postponed election.  Applications for a ballot by for voters who submitted the application based on expected absence from the county will not be valid for the postponed election. (Las solicitudes de una boleta por correo para los votantes que votan por correo por ser mayores de 65 años o por discapacidad seguirán siendo válidas para la elección aplazada. Las solicitudes de votación para los votantes que presentaron la solicitud en base a la ausencia esperada del condado no serán válidas para la elección pospuesta.)

    The voter registration deadline for the November 3, 2020 election is October 5, 2020. (La fecha límite de inscripción de votantes para las elecciones del 3 de noviembre de 2020 es el 5 de octubre de 2020.)

    Applications for ballots by mail must be received no later than the close of business on October 23, 2020. (Las solicitudes de boletas por correo deben recibirse a más tardar el cierre de operaciones el 23 de octubre de 2020.)

    Early voting by personal appearance will be conducted October 19, 2020 – October 30, 2020. (La votación anticipada por comparecencia personal se realizará del 19 de octubre de 2020 al 30 de octubre de 2020.)

  • NOTICE OF TRUSTEE ELECTION

     

    Fort Bend Independent School District will conduct an Election for Trustees Position 1, 4, & 5 in the fall. The election has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related public health concerns. The election will not be held on May 2, 2020. The postponement was possible following Governor Abbott’s  suspension of sections of the election code. Fort Bend ISD elections are conducted pursuant to a Joint Election Agreement with Fort Bend County, which selects the location of early voting and Election Day voting centers.

Election Information

  • Your Board of Trustees, comprised of seven local citizens, provides an important public service to the Fort Bend community and serves without compensation. In accordance with the Texas Elections Code, Fort Bend ISD calls Board elections for the first Saturday in May of each year. Vacancies occurring after the election are filled by appointment until the next election is conducted.

     

    Specific information on upcoming elections, including the election calendar and filing deadlines, will be posted to this page as it becomes available.  General information and statutory requirements regarding elections are available in Board policy: BBA (Legal), BBB (Legal) and BBB (Local)

     

    Current Officers of the Board of Trustees

    President:  Jason Burdine  Vice President: Addie Heyliger  Secretary:   Dave Rosenthal     After canvass of each election, the Board elects a president, vice-president and secretary to serve a one-year term. The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees consists of seven members.  Board members shall be elected for three–year terms, with elections conducted annually.  Election of Board members shall be by position.

     

    Trustees are elected to three-year terms on a rotating basis. Two are elected each year, one from each side of the district (Position 1, 2 and 3 on the West, and Positions 5, 6 and 7 on the East). Also, every third year, the “at large” Position 4, is elected.


    The seven Board of Trustees members are voted on by all residents of the district, and represent all residents of the District.
     
     
    Eligibility and Filing for Candidacy

    To be eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, the office of school board member, a person must: 1. Be a United States citizen. 2. Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable. 3. Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote. 4. Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities. 5. Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the filing date. Election Code 1.020, 141.001(a); Gov’t Code 601.009; Brown v. Patterson, 609 S.W.2d 287 (Tex. Civ. App.—Dallas 1980, no writ); Tex. Const. Art. XVI, Sec. 14
