About the 2024-2025 School Calendar Options

  • This year, there are three draft calendars for consideration. Each calendar focuses on supporting teacher planning and preparation for high-quality learning experiences as well as breaks across the year for our Fort Bend ISD families and staff. The school calendar options allocate time for teaching and learning across 187 days and were developed through the work of staff, parents, community focus groups, and calendar Core Teams that include teachers, principals, and district staff.

    All calendar options include:

    • At least 75,600 operational minutes
    • A minimum of 840 additional minutes, required by the Texas Education Agency, to use in the event of bad weather or other health and safety incidents.
    • Staff professional learning throughout the school year
    • Teacher planning and workdays
    • Regular monthly breaks
    • A week-long Thanksgiving break, two weeks off in December, and a week-long spring break.
    • First day of school would take place before the fourth Monday of August, due to Fort Bend ISD’s status as a District of Innovation.
    • The 1st semester would end before winter break
    • And there would be two days designated as inclement weather makeup days, if needed

There are, however, several differences between the calendars:

Calendar A includes

  • This chart details the adjusted school start and end times should Calendar A or B be one of the adopted options by the Board of Trustees. Note there will be no change to the length of teacher contract hours.

Adjust Bell Schedule if Option A or B is approve

    • An additional 5 instructional minutes to the school day, which would allow for greater flexibility in calendar development such as additional workdays or holidays, while still meeting the total number of instructional minutes
    • Includes a later start to the school year on August 13
    • Teachers who fulfill their required professional learning in the summer would be allowed to have a holiday on September 27 and October 11. These dates are also student holidays.

Calendar B includes

  • This chart details the adjusted school start and end times should Calendar A or B be one of the adopted options by the Board of Trustees. Note there will be no change to the length of teacher contract hours.

Adjust Bell Schedule if Option A or B is approve

    • An additional 5 instructional minutes to the school day to allow for greater flexibility in calendar development, such as additional workdays or holidays while still meeting the total number of instructional minutes
    • Includes a fall break in October; a 5-day weekend for staff and a 6-day weekend for students

Calendar C includes

    • No additional minutes added to the instructional day
    • An end to the school year before Memorial Day
    • Teachers who fulfill their required professional learning in the summer would be allowed to have a holiday on October 10 and October 11. These dates are also student holidays.

Participate in the Calendar Survey

  • Your input and insights are important to Fort Bend ISD. Beginning November 28th through December 11th, the community will have an opportunity to provide their insights, through a public survey, for the 2024-2025 school calendar. The FBISD Calendar Committee will review the community’s feedback and recommend a calendar to the Administration and the Board of Trustees for adoption in January 2024.
