Grade Band Transitioning
The page is designed to be a general information resource for parents of students in the gifted and talented program transitioning either from elementary school to middle school or from middle school to high school. You may address specific questions by contacting the GT Department or your child's campus counseling team.

Selection
- Gifted services are offered through AAC courses in the core content areas of English/language arts, math, science, and social studies.
- Please note that course selection differs at the GT Academy and will be addressed in separate communications.
- Accelerated courses in math and world languages are available in middle school.
- GT-identified students must enroll in the AAC courses offered in the academic field for which they are identified.
- Should a GT-identified student NOT enroll in the AAC courses offered in the academic fields of identification, the student will be furloughed in these areas.
- If a GT-identified student chooses not to enroll in the AAC courses offered in the academic fields of identification after a year of furlough, the student will be exited from GT services in those areas and must re-test for identification in the future.
Gifted and Talented Programming
TPSP in FBISD (Texas Performance Standards Project)
Required for grades 6 -8
Innovation Hour on some campuses
- Innovation Hour on some campuses
- Gifted and Talented Academy at Quail Valley Middle School (optional, by application and lottery)
Credit by Exam
- Credit by Exam (CBE) may be given for a COURSE when there has been no prior instruction for the tested content.
- To earn credit for a middle school course, the student must score 80% or higher on the exam to receive credit.

High School Course Selection Guide
- Gifted services are offered through AAC/AP courses in the core content areas of English/language arts, math, science, and social studies.

Gifted and Talented Mentorship Program
- 12th graders only
- Application and interview process in the spring of junior year.
Credit by Exam

- AP Exam may be used for course credit with a score of 3 or higher.
- CLEP Exam may be used for course credit with a score of 60% or higher.
- A District-Developed World Language exam may be used for course credit with a score of 80% or higher
- All forms of credit by examination are given non-weighted credit.
