The following is a listing of projects from the GT Department 5-Year Task Map that have been completed:
Student Assessment
- Determine local norms by feeder pattern within FBISD for use in the GT identification process.
- Administer the CogAT at all second grade students for use as a universal screener and get feedback.
- Evaluate current identification behavioral inventory and investigate alternate options.
Service Design
- Evaluate current acceleration, flexible pacing, and flexible grouping practices in FBISD and in districts with exemplary GT programs.
- Research and evaluate implementation of GT-designated AP classes and independent study courses.
- Identify factors that limit participation in the GT Mentorship course. Develop and implement a plan to address obstacles and increase enrollment.
- Reevaluate, communicate, and pilot the GT Learning Plan program.
- Look to expand the GT Learning Plan to District-wide implementation, pending pilot feedback.
- Pilot, monitor, and evaluate secondary GT-designated Pre-AP/AP courses with the goal of eventually expanding District-Wide.
- Determine additional supports that may be needed to ensure GT social and emotional needs are addressed.
- Evaluate current tiered instruction and develop and pilot a Tiered Instruction implementation plan.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate an Independent Study Program pilot at the middle school level with the goal of eventually expanding District-wide.
Curriculum and Instruction
- Investigate and implement more uniform Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP) guidelines at the elementary level, and investigate utilization of the TPSP at the secondary level.
- Investigate exemplary use of independent study options.
- Develop and implement Innovation Hour pilot program.
- Determine Innovation Hour Year 1 curriculum needs and pilot campuses.
- Look to expand Innovation Hour, pending pilot feedback.
- Create a FBISD definition of acceleration.
- Investigate opportunities for GT learners to pursue inquiry-based, self-directed learning.
- Garner feedback on integrating Innovation Hour into curriculum.
- Identify districts with exemplary GT programs using Innovation Hour.
- Assess current secondary GT service options and instructional practices in classrooms across the district.
Professional Development
- Develop initial professional development to administrators and teachers implementing the GT Learning Plan.
- Pilot use of the CST GT Crosswalk Tool for campus administrators to provide feedback to GT teachers.
- Provide ongoing professional learning opportunities for administrators and teachers regarding best practices to utilize the CST GT Crosswalk Tool based on feedback from pilot implementation.
- Develop initial professional development to administrators and teachers implementing the GT Learning Plan, then deliver ongoing professional development as the GT Learning Plans are put in place.
Family-Community Involvement
- Evaluate the current use and organization of district web page to provide resources to community members.
- Collaborate with the Communications Department to provide effective mean(s) for communicating timely information about the GT program with stakeholders.
- Develop a communication plan to inform parents about the GT Learning Plan.
- Evaluate current communication methods that exist within FBISD to determine the most effective mean(s) for communicating timely information about the GT program with stakeholders.
