• Summer Evaluation Timeline

  • Students eligible for summer evaluation

    • Students currently attending and enrolled in Fort Bend ISD after January 31, 2022 and prior to May 26, 2022
    • Private/Home school students enrolling for the 2022-2023 school year
    • Students must be actively enrolled in FBISD and in grades 1- 12.
    • Note:  Students entering kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year are NOT eligible for summer GT testing. Kindergarten evaluation takes place during the Fall Evaluation Window.

    Referral

    • The online referral window will be available beginning July 18, 2022, on the GT Home Page.
    • To submit a referral, the parent/guardian must use the online referral. Click Here to submit a referral (July Only).
    • Referrals must be submitted online by the July 28, 2022 deadline. Exceptions will not be made.

    Student Assessment

    • The cognitive abilities test used is the CogAT. Subtests administered are Non-Verbal, Verbal, and Quantitative.
    • The test will be administered August 6, 2022, at Fort Settlement Middle School, 5440 Elkins Rd., Sugar Land, TX  77479.
    • Parents will receive an e-mail indicating the student's assigned testing date and time.
    • Parents will be asked to complete a Home Rating Scale provided by the GT department on site on the date of testing August 6, 2022

    Identification Process

    • Assessment scores and Home Rating Scale (SIGS) scores are plotted on the Gifted and Talented Identification Profile. 
    • The Campus Selection Committee convenes to review results and verify accurate student profiles.
    • Students who are identified typically meet the following criteria:
      • Non-Verbal test score in gifted/high ability range AND;
      • Verbal OR Quantitative score in gifted/high ability range.
      • Rating scales do not keep students from being identified.
      • Rating scales serve the purpose of providing additional information for students with at least one test score in range.
    • All members of the Campus Selection Committee have been trained in gifted education and specifically in identifying students' needs for the education services provided by the FBISD GT Program.
    • Students are identified for services in specific content areas, English Langauge Arts and Social Studies and/or Math and Science.

    Notification

    • Parents are notified in writing of the Campus Selection Committee's decision.
    • Notification letters will be sent no later than August 24, 2022.
    • Parents are advised of their right to appeal and the process for doing so.

    Appeals

    • Parents must appeal within ten school days, as indicated on the notification letter.
    • The District GT Appeal Committee responds with its decision in writing within ten school-days of the meeting.
