Elementary School Attendance Counts!

  • Daily attendance in school is a strong indicator of future success.

Per the Student Attendance Accounting Handbook provided by Texas Education Agency, a student is considered either present or absent at the official attendance-taking time, known as snapshot.

Each campus attendance is determined by the number of students present at this important designated snapshot time. The elementary school snapshot time is 10:00 a.m.

To ensure academic engagement and successful learning, all students should be present daily by snapshot and remain academically engaged all day.

Attendance Policies and Procedures

  • The district attendance policies and procedures can be found in the FBISD Student/Parent Handbook.

    Daily Attendance

Attendance is taken every day at 10:00am.  If a student is not present by 10:00 am, they are marked absent and an automated call from FBISD will go out to notify the parent. An absence note must be turned in within 5 school days of the student’s return to school. The note must include the student’s first and last name, date(s), reason of absence, and parent contact information. Failure to submit an absence note within 5 days will result in the absence(s) being recorded as unexcused. All absences, whether excused or unexcused, must be considered in determining whether a student has attended the required percentage of days.

Parent notes are required for all absences within five days from the absence date. Notes must include full student name as well as the reason for the absence.  Please email all absence notes to AttendanceCSE@fortbendisd.com. Contact our attendance clerk, Mrs. Lobo, at (281) 634-6404 if you have questions.

    Tardies/Arriving Late to School

    • Students are considered tardy if they arrive after 8:10 am. If the student arrives after 10:00 a.m. (official attendance time), the student will be marked absent. If a student is tardy, a parent or guardian must escort the student into the building and sign them in. Please note, if a student has a combination of five or more tardies or early pickups in a grading period, he/she will receive a “N” (Needs Improvement) on his/her report card under the appropriate conduct section. In order to excuse a tardy, you will need to turn in a doctor's note within five days of the student returning to school.

    Leaving School Early

    • Parents and students must adhere to the following procedures:
      • Please send an email to the Attendance Office prior to 10:00 am so we can have your child ready for pick up. No early pick ups after 2:40 pm.
      • For your child's safety, parents/guardians picking up the student MUST be on that student's emergency contact list and have a valid picture ID.
      • Please note, if a student has a combination of five or more tardies or early pickups in a grading period, he/she will receive a “N” (Needs Improvement) on his/her report card under the appropriate conduct section.
