I thought the program was free, why am I being charged a fee?
There is no cost to be issued an EquippED laptop, however, students are responsible for the care and protection of the computer. If the laptop is lost, stolen, or damaged, the student will be charged a fee. If the student has purchased the optional insurance plan before the loss or damage, then that can be used to cover the loss or damage according to the terms of the policy.

Why did I receive a notification for a $1 insurance claim fee?
The optional laptop insurance program permits two claims per year. Our current inventory system does not have an option for tracking Insurance claims, so we are using the fee system to track insurance claim #1 and insurance claim #2. These $1 fees are simply place holders. The current system does not allow for $0 fees, and it automatically sends an email for all assessed fees. Please ignore the $1 fee. IT is in the process of upgrading to a new inventory system that will allow for management of insurance claims directly without these placeholder fees.

Can newly enrolled students purchase the optional insurance?
Yes, students that enroll in Fort Bend ISD after the fall laptop distribution may purchase the optional laptop insurance. When a newly enrolled student is issued their laptop, they will be provided with information about the optional insurance program. New students have two weeks from the date their EquippED laptop is issued to purchase the insurance.
Purchase New Student Insurance Here
If a new student wishes to purchase the insurance after the two-week period, they will need to follow the “Late Insurance Purchase” process.

If I missed the deadline to purchase insurance, can I still buy it?
Yes, students can purchase the optional insurance after the deadline. The only additional requirement is that the laptop must be inspected by Technology staff for pre-existing damage before the coverage will be activated.
