  • The Department of Special Education has developed procedures to support ARD committees in developing plans for students who show regression or may be in need of compensatory services as a result of the pandemic and impact on the implementation students’ IEPs.  The procedures require campuses to review progress for all students receiving special education services and determine on an individual basis if compensatory services need to be considered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Campuses are currently reviewing student data and contacting parents as appropriate to schedule an ARD meeting to propose compensatory services.  Data to be considered includes the Ren360 assessment, alternative assessment data such as Brigance, Unique, and ABBLS which are assessments for students who access their instruction via an Alternative Curriculum due to their disability, IEP progress reports, and behavioral progress reports.  Additionally, parents also have a right to bring up concerns regarding compensatory needs with their child’s ARD committee even if the campus does not propose a compensatory plan.   Parents should contact their Campus Compliance Coordinator (CCC) at the elementary level or ARD Facilitator at the secondary level if they would like to schedule an ARD to have further discussions regarding compensatory services.
