Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs)
A parent or guardian may seek an Independent Educational Evaluation ("IEE") at public expense if the parent disagrees with an evaluation conducted by the District. However, the District may initiate a special education due process hearing to show that its evaluation is appropriate. This can occur before an IEE is conducted or after the parent has obtained an IEE and is asking for reimbursement. If the final decision of the hearing officer is that the evaluation was appropriate, the parent still has the right to an independent evaluation, but not at public expense.

Next Steps

Fort Bend ISD processes requests for IEEs on a daily basis. However, depending on the individual circumstances related to each request, once all necessary documents have been received, it can take up to 10 school days for requests to be approved or denied.
