Special Education

  • The Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) provides educational opportunities to all students.  Included in those opportunities are special education services for students identified with specific learning needs.  The Special Education Department strives to provide excellent customer service to the students and parents in FBISD.

    If you as a parent or caregiver need support in the area of your child’s learning environment, i.e., online, face-to-face, distance learning, and/or concurrent,  or if you have any other concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your campus and speak with your student’s Case Manager or designated Principal.  You may also reach out directly to your student’s Program Manager or Specialist.  At any point, if you would like to contact the Special Education Administration office directly, please use the below link and complete the FBISD Special Education Support Request Form.  A member of our leadership team will reach out and assist you to ensure your concerns are addressed.

    2021 Extended School Year (ESY) Information

    Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) services will be provided to students receiving special education services who are recommended through an ARD committee decision. ESY services are provided to students who have demonstrated substantial regression in critical skill area(s) that cannot be recouped within a reasonable period of time or that need to be maintained beyond the regular school year.  Students who are currently receiving instruction in the online setting or who have documented medical concerns can be considered for online ESY, whereas all other students will attend ESY in the face to face environment.  In order to ensure appropriate social distancing and staff to student ratios, no changes in the method of instruction will be allowed during ESY.

    Meet the ESY Teacher – Parents and students will have the opportunity to meet the ESY classroom team prior to the start of ESY, through a virtual model.  Please be on the lookout for a TEAMS invitation from your child’s ESY teacher for “Meet the Teacher”, to occur on June 10, 2021.
