Professional Learning Programming

  • Professional Learning Communities

The Teacher Development Department works to build capacity at the campus level with their implementation of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) as aligned to the Fort Bend ISD goals and commitments.  When teachers come together to plan instruction, design formative assessments, and analyze student work, they create a culture of collaborative inquiry while building collective teacher efficacy.  Ultimately, it improves the learning experience for students and empowers them to take ownership of their learning.  PLCs advance the work of building assessment capable learners through student ownership. We support professional collaboration through systems, protocols, dialogue, and the building of a common understanding among all teachers to create and expand equitable learning for ALL students.

The Teacher Development Department works to build capacity at the campus level by supporting a variety of teacher leader groups and teacher cadres.  Teacher cadres engage in deep learning around subject matter content so they are better able to implement those practices in their learning environments.  Teacher leaders serve in formal leadership roles on their campus where they cultivate a collaborative culture of learning by providing quality professional learning experiences and ongoing job-embedded learning opportunities aligned to campus and district goals.

    Instructional Coaching

The Teacher Development Department partners with the school’s administrators and instructional coach team. Together they ensure the success of quality Tier 1 instruction for all students.  Through coaching cycles, instructional coaches are able to partner with teachers develop goals to improve the quality of student-centered instruction.  Instructional coaches use a variety of protocols and coaching moves in order to meet teachers where they are and help them move to their next level.  We engage coaches and administrators in reflective dialogue around aligned district, campus, and teacher goals using specific evidence of effort and impact. This evidence allows coaches and administrators to reflect on how coaching, professional development, and professional learning leads to student ownership of learning and behavior.

The Teacher Development Department works to build capacity of new teachers through the Teachers Advancing Professional Practice (TAPP) Mentorship Program and Cooperating Teachers   These programs exist to create personalized learning experiences linked to the needs of a novice teacher with a focus on best practices that are readily applicable in their professional practice.  Cooperating Teachers and TAPP Mentors engage with teachers in coaching types of activities through observations and feedback.  They facilitate and encourage reflection that nurtures professional growth.  Extended mentorship is available to second year teachers in need of support and is differentiated to continue to build teacher capacity in the areas of classroom management and instructional best practice.
