Remote Conference Instruction Overview

  • Remote Conference is a temporary remote learning experience to maintain instructional continuity to minimize disruptions to student learning and support a transition back to the face-to-face learning environment. Remote conferencing is not the same as the virtual learning program.

    Synchronous and Asynchronous Learning

This remote conferencing instruction will include both synchronous and asynchronous learning.  Participation in both synchronous and asynchronous learning is required for attendance reporting and continuity of face-to-face instruction.

Students must have cameras on for the duration of synchronous instructions according to the defined schedule.

Remote Synchronous Instruction is two-way, real-time/live, virtual instruction between instructors and students when students are not on campus.

Remote Asynchronous Instruction is instruction that does not require having the instructors and students engaged at the same time.

Remote Conference: You qualify if...

  • TEA has provided very specific guidelines on the qualifications and requirements for student participation in Remote Conferencing.  Additional details may be found on the Remote Conferencing FAQ document.

To qualify for Remote Conferencing two requirements must be met:

    • The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition.
    • The total amount of remote conferencing instruction does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year.

In addition to the above, the student must also meet one of the following:

    • The student’s temporary medical condition is documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States. The documentation must include a statement from the physician that the student is to remain confined to their home or to a hospital.
    • The student has a positive test result for a communicable condition listed in 25 TAC §97.7.
    • The student has been identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19.

Depending on how a student qualifies, they must then complete a simple registration process to enter Remote Conferencing.
