Meal To Go for Students Observing Ramadan
Fort Bend ISD is pleased to share valuable information regarding meal accommodations on school days for students observing Ramadan. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved a waiver allowing schools in Texas to provide takeaway meals to students who are fasting during Ramadan.
USDA approved participation in serving students during Ramadan. These waivers allow eligible students to receive breakfast and lunch in a manner that aligns with their religious observance. Due to late notice from the Texas Department of Agriculture, Fort Bend ISD Child Nutrition was unable to implement the waiver during the first two school weeks of Ramadan (February 17–20 & February 23-27). Fort Bend ISD will begin providing meals starting Monday, March 2, 2026 through Friday, March 13, 2026, on school days.
Please note that takeaway meals will not be available for the Teacher Work Day on Friday, March 6, 2026.
If you do not wish to participate, no action is required.
Who is eligible?
-
Enrolled FBISD students who are fasting during Ramadan may receive takeaway meal service.
Meal distribution
-
Meals will be available for pick-up after school for students who attend school that day.
-
Communication will be shared from your school(s) about the pick-up location. Students who receive takeaway meals may not also participate in the school breakfast or lunch program during the school day.
Meal price
-
Meals will be provided based on each student’s Free, Reduced, or Paid meal eligibility status unless the student is enrolled at a CEP Campus.
Meal limits
-
Only one breakfast and one lunch may be provided per student per day.
-
Students who receive a takeaway meal may not receive a meal during the school day.
Registration
-
To participate, families must register each week for takeaway breakfasts and lunches by completing the request form by 4:00 p.m. each Thursday or by selecting both weeks when registering.
-
Families who would like their student(s) to receive meals the week of March 2–5 should complete the registration form by Thursday, February 26, at 4:00 PM.
-
The next and final deadline will be Thursday, March 5, at 4:00 PM for the week of March 9–13.
All FBISD families will receive weekly registration reminders during Ramadan. The district does not collect or maintain information about students’ religious affiliation, so reminders are shared with all families to ensure that anyone who wishes to participate has access to the information and registration form.
