Instructional Apprentice and Aspiring Teacher Positions
Fort Bend ISD offers Instructional Apprentice and Aspiring Teacher positions to individuals enrolled in an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP), including Alternative Certification Programs (ACP). These roles allow candidates to teach full-time for one school year while completing certification requirements.
Participants receive job-embedded support through an assigned mentor who provides guidance, feedback, and resources to help them successfully transition into the teaching profession.
Position Overview
These positions are part of Fort Bend ISD’s broader commitment to growing and supporting a strong pipeline of future educators. They are designed to provide aspiring teachers with hands-on classroom experience and structured support as they work toward certification.
Eligibility Requirements: Instructional Apprentice
To qualify for an Instructional Apprentice position, candidates must:
- Hold a conferred bachelor’s degree
- Be actively enrolled in a Texas-approved ACP or have recently completed a university-based EPP
- Have completed all coursework, with only certification exams and required observation hours remaining
- Field-Based Experiences (FBEs/observations) preferred but not required
- Have no more than two years of ACP enrollment at the time of hire
- Have no more than one failed certification exam attempt, or two attempts with current exam approval
- Be able to submit documentation verifying coursework completion, exam status, and observation progress

Additional Requirements: Aspiring Teachers in SPED, Bilingual, or Pre-K
Candidates applying for Aspiring Teacher positions in Special Education, Bilingual Education, or Pre-Kindergarten must also:
- Have EPP approval to test for one of the following:
- SPED EC–12
- Bilingual Education
- Core Subjects EC–6 with STR
- Provide documentation confirming eligibility for a Program Deficiency Plan (at the applicant’s expense)
- Not have previously held an Emergency Permit

Certification Deadline
All Instructional Apprentice and Aspiring Teacher candidates must meet certification requirements and become eligible for an Intern or Standard Texas teaching certificate no later than March 27, 2026.
