  • November 16 Announcement: We understand some primary guardians reported that they did not receive their Blackboard Connect login ID on Thursday, November 15. Fort Bend ISD resent login ID information Monday evening, November 26. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience during this transition.

Welcome to Blackboard Connect – FBISD’s new mass notification system!

Effective Wednesday, November 28, Fort Bend ISD will use a new mass notification system to send parent phone calls, emails and with parent consent, text messages. Like its predecessor, the new system, Blackboard Connect, will be used to send emergency, attendance and general notifications from your child’s campus and Fort Bend ISD, as well as attendance updates and information about negative lunch balances. Because safety is the District’s highest priority, we are excited to introduce a new system that will allow for more efficient communications between you and your child’s campus. The system will also allow parents and guardians to review past messages from FBISD and your child’s campus directly from the Blackboard Connect platform.

    Default settings and customizable preferences

On Thursday, November 15, Blackboard Connect login information will be sent to each student’s primary guardian as indicated in Skyward Family Access. Only this primary guardian’s information (phone and email address) will receive default communications from Fort Bend ISD when the new system goes live; but, by logging into Blackboard Connect, the primary guardian can add additional phone numbers and email addresses, as well as opt-in for text messages.

In situations where parents live in separate households, the primary guardian in each household will be provided with a login and receive default communications to their primary phone number and email address, with ability to add others and opt-in to text messages.

Important note: Due to the transition, previous communication settings in Skylert will no longer be in effect. To ensure that all parents and guardians continue to receive timely communications, primary guardians are encouraged to log in to the new system to review their contact information, and if they choose, add other contact phone numbers and email addresses. Please note that these changes will not take effect until November 28, when the system goes live and FBISD transitions Blackboard Connect.

Communication preferences are customizable based on several categories, including:

    • Emergency messages: This category pertains to events that are affecting the safety of your child, an incident that is affecting normal operations of your child’s school day, or District closures due to inclement weather or other emergencies. Safety messages will fall into this category if they involve active/ongoing investigations or situations. The default setting for emergency messages will include the primary guardian’s phone/email for each family/household, with ability to add additional contact phone numbers and email addresses and opt-in to texts. At least one phone and email address arrequired and must be provided for these communications.
    • Attendance messages: These are automated and will be sent out once a day, via phone call and email. The default setting for attendance messages will include the primary guardian’s phone/email for each family/household, with ability to add additional contact phone numbers and email addresses and opt-in to texts. Parents can opt out of receiving these messages by logging into the system.
    • Balance – NEW CATEGORY: These are automated and will be sent out once a week via phone and email, when a child owes more than $5 in their lunch account. The default setting for “balance” messages will include the primary guardian’s phone/email for each family/household, with ability to add additional contact phone numbers and email addresses and opt-in to texts. Parents can opt out of receiving these messages by logging into the system. Note: Information about your child's cafeteria balances will not be displayed in Blackboard Connect at this time, and can be viewed by logging into RevTrak.
    • Other – These are regular and most common messages sent by campus administrators and/or the District. These notifications will pertain to campus events and information, as well as general notifications of campus incidents. Some safety messages will fall into this category if they involve general awareness/reminders, or precautionary measures implemented during the course of a school day. The default setting for “other” messages will include the primary guardian’s phone/email for each family/household, with ability to add additional contact phone numbers and email addresses and opt-in to texts. Parents can opt out of receiving these messages by logging into the system. Note: Parents are strongly encouraged to have at least one email address set as a preference. Email is the primary communication method for campus and district communications, and not all messages can be abbreviated into a phone call or text.
    • Survey – Please note that this category is not related to the distribution of Fort Bend ISD surveys administered via K12Insight, and this survey feature is not something FBISD plans to utilize at this time.

    Text Messaging

By choosing to receive any text messages or phone calls, standard data fees, text messaging rates, or international charges may apply based on your plan with your phone carrier. As mobile access and text message delivery is subject to your mobile carrier network availability, such access and delivery is not guaranteed.
