Out-Of-District Public School GT Transfer Students

Incoming 6th grade GT students transferring into FBISD who were identified and receiving gifted services in a public school district are eligible to have their data reviewed for admission into the Academy.

In order to be considered for acceptance to the GTA, the student must be enrolled in FBISD. Enrollment does not mean that the student has to leave his/her current campus and begin attending an FBISD school immediately; rather, it means that the parent must indicate the intention to attend the student's zoned FBISD school for the upcoming (next) school year. Typically, schools begin registering students for the upcoming school year in mid-March.

During the enrollment process at the student's ZONED campus, the parents should indicate that their child was receiving GT services at his/her previous school AS WELL AS communicate interest in applying for the GT Academy.  The counselor will then request data from the previous district regarding the student’s GT eligibility. Or this data may be provided by the parents at the time of enrollment. The data is then sent to the FBISD GT Department for review.

At the latest, this data must be received by the District's GT Department by July 25, 2025. However, as soon as the student is enrolled, it is recommended that the parents communicate the need to obtain and/or forward any information regarding GT-identification to the FBISD GT Department in a timely manner.

Upon confirmation of eligibility for gifted services in Fort Bend ISD, the parent may contact the GT Academy Coordinator to see if there are any roster spaces open in the GT Academy.

Admission into the academy for eligible GT out of district transfer students will be on a case-by-case basis based on availability. If no roster spaces are open, the transfer student may be placed on the GTA waitlist.
