WATCH or READ: Superintendent Search Update from FBISD Board President Addie Heyliger (4/1/2021)
Hello, I’m Addie Heyliger, President of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees.
The District has now begun its nationwide search for a superintendent to succeed Dr. Charles Dupre who plans to retire later this year. I assure you this search is a top priority for the board, and we are eager and excited that the process has started.
As we relayed to you about a month ago, we selected the executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates to conduct our search. Our first planning session with them occurred Wednesday night. It was informative and productive, and I want to thank my fellow board members for their questions and suggestions to ensure a strong process.
I am asking you to participate in this crucial selection. We need your voice, your input, and your feedback as we work to find Fort Bend ISD’s next superintendent.
At our planning meeting, we determined that by early next week, we will supply Hazard, Young and Attea with a list of community engagement partners who should play a central role in the search.
We also determined our procedures will include surveys to help determine the most important characteristics our next superintendent should possess. And it was my strong desire and the will of the board that students take part in that survey. After all, our children are the most important stakeholders we have.
We will use input from all our key stakeholders to create a profile that the search firm can utilize as a tool to identify the best candidates.
After a series of interviews, by late June we expect to name a lone finalist with the goal of our new superintendent being in place in early August. I want to make it clear that all of us will work together to select our next educator-in-chief, not the search firm.
Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will serve as the entity that does the legwork. Their tasks will take them across the nation as they find the most qualified finalists.
The firm is one of the most highly regarded executive search and educational consulting firms in the nation. They have more than 30 years of experience. We are confident they will successfully compile a great slate of educational leaders who may be considered for the post.
We are all proud that our District is award-winning, highly rated, and extremely diverse with nearly 80,000 students who are being instructed, developed, and mentored to attain the attributes of our Profile of a Graduate.
We look forward to receiving your input, ideas, comments, questions and concerns. Please, get involved. You may visit the site we have set up at “fort bend isd.com/superintendent search” to receive important updates, see key dates and stay informed every step of the way.
Personally, I want you to know I will insist that the person selected is someone who will understand, appreciate and work to support the diverse needs of our children. And of course, the individual must possess the skills, talents, knowledge and vision to not only continue the District’s tradition of excellence but build upon it as well.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I thank you in advance for partnering with the District as we select a new superintendent.
