• Medical Science Academy – Class of 2028 and Beyond

    Purpose/Overview

    The Medical Science Academy exists to provide students opportunities to receive in-depth exposure to a specific career pathway in the healthcare field. The Academy is comprehensive in nature and covers multiple disciplines in the general field of health science. Students are exposed to robust academic coursework ensuring college readiness in the field of health science.

    Program Requirements

    As a student in the Medical Science Academy, you must complete a minimum of 6.0 credits of health science electives courses and must be enrolled in a PreAP/AP/Dual Credit science course all four years and are highly encouraged to take advanced-level math all four years.

    Required Exercise Science, Wellness, & Restoration Pathway

    Year 1 – Principles of Health Science
    Year 2 – Kinesiology I
    Year 3 – Kinesiology II & Anatomy and Physiology
    Year 4 – Practicum in Health Science

    Required Biomedical Pathway

    Year 1 – Principles of Biomedical Science (PLTW)
    Year 2 –Human Body (PTLW)
    Year 3 – Medical Intervention (PLTW) and Medical Microbiology
    Year 4 – Biomedical Intervention PLW

     Academy Expectations

    • Academy students must be enrolled in the appropriate sequence of academy and academic courses as outlined in the program guidelines at all times. 
    • Academy students must maintain a 75 or higher in all academy specific courses.
    • Academy students must maintain a 70 or higher in all other courses.
    • Academy students must complete 12.5 hours of community service each semester for a total of 25 hours per school year as approved by the Academy Coordinator.
    • Academy students must participate in at least one enrichment activity per grading period as outlined by the Academy Coordinator
