  • Spotlight & Brag Book Submission Form

Spotlight & Brag Book Submission Form

We would like to start highlighting our outstanding Academy students and their accomplishments in and outside of school. If your student has won an award, received a scholarship, participated in a competitive summer program, etc. please submit this form. We will post your student's accomplishment in the Student Spotlight section of our new Academy website and they may be featured in a Brag Book and Points of Pride for later publication. Again, the accomplishment does not have to be related to the Academy program in which your student is enrolled. Nothing is too small of an accomplishment to submit!

  • Abby B Attended the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine with Envision

Abby B Attended the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine with Envision

Hi, my name is Abby B. and I am a junior in IBMA. This past summer, I was nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum: Medicine with Envision. NYLF: Medicine is just one out of many other programs Envision hosts, but it is one of the programs for high school students interested in medicine to learn the basics to possibly commit to the field later on. I decided to take the opportunity and traveled to Boston, Massachusetts from June 25th to July 3rd for the program. My time there consisted of lots of early mornings and late nights as they packed our days to really give us a great experience. We would wake up at 6 AM and start activities around 7 or 8 AM like clinical rotations, trauma training, and emergency medical care. I remember on the second day we had emergency medical care rotations and one of the tasks was external hemorrhaging. We had groups of 5 tending to the wound and our advisor decided to make it a competition between us to see who could finish the fastest while completing the procedure correctly. I am proud to say that my group had cleaned the wound and wrapped it the fastest and cleanest as we completed the task in 31 seconds. Another one of my favorite memories was when we visited the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. We went to UNECOM for a whole day learning some of the basics of osteopathic medical school. Talking to all the medical students and learning from them is probably what made me want to commit to medicine. Even though the program was focused on medicine, it was also about making friendships that will last a lifetime. I met so many people through this program who I still talk to every day. Even within a short amount of time, we all connected on some level and created a strong bond. We all walked in as strangers too scared to even talk and walked out with tears because we did not want to say goodbye. This program was an unforgettable experience.
