Protect Your Vehicle From Catalytic Converter Thefts
Catalytic Converter thefts have risen significantly in recent years. This is not just happening in Fort Bend County. These thefts have skyrocketed globally since the beginning of the pandemic. The reason for the dramatic increase is the three precious metals that are contained within the catalytic converter. The prices of platinum, palladium and rhodium have increased dramatically in the same period.
While any vehicle with a catalytic converter is susceptible, there are six models of vehicles most often targeted.
- Toyota Tundra
- Toyota Prius
- Toyota Tacoma
- Ford F-250
- Honda Element
- Honda CRV
What can you do to decrease your chances of being a victim?
- Park in well-lit areas
- Park inside a garage
- Park close to building entrances or near a busy road.
- Install motion sensors to discourage would-be thieves
- Install a catalytic converter security device
- Etch your vehicle’s VIN into the catalytic converter
- Paint your catalytic converter with high-temperature automotive paint.
Remember to report suspicious activity to law enforcement
