  • 2018-19 Course Selection

Course selection for the 2018-19 school year opens on January 22, 2018 and closes on February 23, 2018, so we want to make you aware of a new process we are implementing this year in order to make the process easier and more efficient for you and your child.

Students will now be building their four-year high school plan in Skyward. Once complete, the courses in their plans will then serve as course requests for the upcoming school year. For a sneak peek on what this process looks like, check out this short video.
In order to make this process as seamless as possible, counselors will be setting up labs at your child’s school so they can work directly with your child in completing the new course selection process. If your child does not complete the task during these labs, they can do it at home. (Online resources are also available for you and your child on the Teaching and Learning webpage with step-by-step instructions). Once your child completes their plan, parents will be required to e-sign their approval in Family Access.

    Why the change?

The change for Course Selection was made because we know that careful planning is important to ensure that all requirements are met so that students may graduate on time. Four-year plans allow students to personalize their high school experience and incorporate classes that help prepare them for futures beyond what they can imagine. This method also allows students and parents to review their courses each year to ensure students are on track to earn their endorsement and graduate from high school. Planning also helps students take full advantage of courses and pathways that are available at their school, and it becomes more meaningful when directly tied to the course requests.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school counselor.

  • Level Change Guidelines: Before students make a request to level down in a class, they are expected to seek help from their teacher. After seeking help if a level change is still necessary, then students should pick-up a level change form from the CHS commons office. Once counselors receive the completed form, it can take 3-5 business days for the change to occur. Please keep in mind that requests to change levels are requests and not guarantees that a change will occur. During progress and report card time, no schedule changes are possible. Counselors do not accept schedule change requests via email.
