Ms. Lori Toney
Welcome back, Rangers!
I'm excited about being your English I or II AAC teacher for the 2024-2025 school year! I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. I moved to Texas 15 years ago, and this will be my 16th year teaching and my 11th at CHS. I started out teaching at Aldine ISD, where I taught English I for 4 years. After Aldine, I taught a year of 8th grade English in Pearland, and finally landed here at CHS. I love it here!
In addition to teaching, I am also a professional writer! As a freelancer, I write blog articles, email marketing texts, website copy, and so much more for an educational app company that I've been working with for the past 8 years. I truly hope that my experience with professional writing will help to give you real-world context for improving your own writing skills!
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, watching way too much TV, and spending my time with my family. I have twins by 12-year-old girls and a 9-year-old son. My girls are in 7th grade and attending First Colony Middle School, and my son is in 4th grade at Colony Bend Elementary School. All three of my kids are future Rangers!
I also have two lovable furbabies. I have a 2-year-old Australian cattle dog mix, Ruby, who thinks she's the queen of the house, and a 1-year-old golden retriever named Bear. They're the oddest couple, but they're fun and I probably talk about them too much.
I am looking forward to having yet another awesome year here at CHS, and I hope you are too!
Before you go, if you are an incoming 9th grader, please see the letter below, which was sent out to all feeder middle schools in April. Summer reading is required, and you must obtain a physical copy of the book for classroom activities.
If you are a rising sophomore, you were given the list in May before the end of the year. I have no way to upload two documents here, but the sophomore list includes:
- I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys
- Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
- Refugee by Alan Gratz
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
