Fort Bend ISD is excited to introduce a full-time Virtual Learning Program for high school students. FBISD students entering 9th grade in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply for this innovative program, which offers rigorous coursework, personalized pacing, and a supportive online community.

Logistics

- Open to any rising 9th grader previously enrolled in a Texas school
- Approximately 100 seats available
- Kempner High School will be the "Host" Campus for the 2026-2027 school year
- FBISD will apply via TEA to open a "stand alone" virtual campus
- Plan to expand grade levels as interest and enrollment grows

Is this a separate school from Kempner High School?
No. Students remain enrolled at Kempner High School and graduate from Kempner High School upon meeting all requirements.

Who is eligible to enroll?
Rising 9th-grade students for the 2026-27 school year.

When will we find out about acceptance?
Notifications will be sent to students who have applied the week of May 11th.

Is there a middle school or elementary option?
No. At this time, the program is available only to rising 9th-grade students for the 2026-27 school year.

Is there a commitment period?
Yes. Enrollment requires at least a full-semester commitment.

Can students transition back to in-person learning?
Yes, but transitions may occur only at the beginning of each semester.

What happens if expectations are not met?
Failure to meet attendance, participation, or academic expectations may result in removal from the Fort Bend ISD virtual school.

Is transportation provided?
No. Families must provide transportation for any on-campus classes, testing, or activities.

What technology is required?
Students must have reliable internet access, appropriate technology, and a dedicated workspace at home.

Currently, there is no assistance available for families needing technology or connectivity support at home.

What is the school day schedule? Are there set class times?
Virtual courses are self-paced within 9-week grading periods. Students participating in extracurricular activities will have to follow the Kempner High School bell schedule for those identified class periods.

Can students be on campus during unscheduled periods?
No. Students may only be on campus during assigned in-person class times.

Are students required to attend in person at all if they are fully virtual?
Yes. Students are required to report in person for state assessments required for graduation and required local assessments. Students participating in extracurricular activities will have to follow the Kempner High School bell schedule for those identified class periods.

Will teachers be Fort Bend ISD faculty members?
Courses are delivered through approved online curriculum platforms with support and monitoring provided by Kempner High School staff.

What happens if a teacher is absent?
Because coursework is housed on the online platform, students can continue working.

What if my student has questions about assignments?
Part of the program expectations requires synchronous check-ins with certified teachers. During these check-ins, students will be able to receive support.

Are students required to be online at specific times?
Online participation will be flexible. Students will be required to follow each course's submission requirements and attend synchronous check-ins with certified staff aligned with program requirements.

Are services available for students with disabilities?
Yes. Students requiring special services identified through the ARD, 504, or LPAC process will receive accommodations determined through that committee.

Does the NCAA accept virtual courses?
Yes. All core courses offered through Fort Bend ISD virtual school are accepted by the NCAA.

Can students participate in athletics and extracurricular activities?
Yes. Students may participate in athletics, band, fine arts, and clubs on campus. Students must be zoned to Kempner High School to participate in UIL-sanctioned activities. Students may also attend homecoming, prom, and other campus events.

How are attendance and progress monitored?
Fort Bend ISD staff monitor course pacing, participation, and progress through the online platform. Skyward will be the official gradebook and contain official student academic records.

How do we submit doctor notes?
Doctor's notes should be submitted to the Kempner High School attendance office following standard district procedures.

Will virtual grades count toward GPA and class rank?
Yes. Virtual courses are included in GPA and class rank calculations in accordance with local policy.

What happens if my student is absent?
Students are expected to maintain pacing and complete assignments in their virtual courses by submitting them according to the course requirements. Absences from in-person requirements must follow standard campus attendance procedures.
