• Expansion of Ridgemont Early Literacy Center in the Willowridge Feeder Pattern

    Updated March 2020

The Ridgemont Early Literacy Center (ELC) will expand to full implementation in the 2021-22 school year to serve all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students in the Willowridge Feeder Pattern. We are excited about this expansion as the ELC strategically addresses student achievement in literacy and has already demonstrated significant student progress. The following frequently asked questions provide more information about the Ridgemont ELC.

  • A Message on Behalf of the Board of Trustees from Board President Jason Burdine

    March 4, 2020

TO OUR WILLOWRIDGE FEEDER PATTERN COMMUNITY:

I am writing to you on behalf of the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees. On Monday, February 24, 2020 at our Regular Business Meeting, our Board was notified the Ridgemont Early Literacy Center (ELC) will expand to full implementation in the 2021-22 school year to serve all Pre-K, Kindergarten, and first grade students in the Willowridge Feeder Pattern. We are excited about this expansion as the ELC strategically addresses student achievement in literacy and has already demonstrated significant student progress.

The ELC includes the co-teach model, which places two instructors in each classroom to provide students with an enriched learning experience. Kindergarten and first grade classrooms each have two certified teachers, with a ratio of 1:12. Prekindergarten classrooms have a certified teacher and an accompanying aide for a staff to student ratio of 1:11. The ELC also includes a 210-day contract for all teachers, which provides additional opportunities for professional learning, and an extended school year for students.

    Future boundary implications (2021-22)

To allow for full implementation of the Ridgemont ELC, a boundary change will go into effect in the 2021-22 school year. This boundary change will rezone second through fifth grade students living in the current Ridgemont Elementary feeder pattern to other elementary schools in the Willowridge HS feeder pattern. It is important that our community understands that the Ridgemont campus will continue to thrive within the community, but in order to support our youngest learners, it will only support lower grade levels (PreKindergarten through first grade) in the 2021-22 school year and beyond. In addition, the Early Intervention Academy (EIA) will be relocated to Quail Valley Elementary for the 2020-21 school year. The relocation of this program not only provides additional capacity at RME/ELC, it also is responsive to parent requests to offer this program at a more centrally located campus.

It is expected that administration will present preliminary boundary options to the Board and School Boundary Oversight Committee (SBOC) during the fall 2020 semester. Public Hearings will also be scheduled around that time as part of the community engagement process, and we will keep our community updated as these hearings are planned.

We understand that decisions such as this do impact families and we want to be sensitive to that and ensure everyone has accurate information. As a result, we have created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document that is located at the bottom of this webpage.

Please be assured that our Board will continue to work closely with FBISD district administrators to ensure the very best learning experiences for all of our students. If the FAQ does not answer all your questions, please submit questions via Let’s Talk .

    Sincerely,

    Jason Burdine
    President, Board of Trustees
