Three FBISD middle schools selected to participate in the
Verizon Innovative Learning initiative
Fort Bend ISD is pleased to announce that three District middle schools (Hodges Bend, McAuliffe and Missouri City Middle Schools) were selected to participate in the Verizon Innovative Learning (VIL) initiative. For the next two years (beginning in Spring 2017 through June 2019), students at each of the schools will have access to mobile learning technology and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) learning opportunities.
Too many schools across America still lack the technology and resources to prepare students for a future in the digital world. But to make a real difference, it takes more than just technology. Lasting impact comes from personalized, hands-on learning and experiences.
That’s why Verizon, through a partnership with Digital Promise, will equip every child and teacher at the select FBISD middle schools with a tablet, carrying case and a two-year Verizon Wireless monthly 5 GB LTE data plan for 24/7 access in school and at home. At the end of the project, the tablet becomes the property of FBISD.
In addition to free technology and access, Verizon Innovative Learning schools also receive extensive teacher training and support, and unique opportunities that engage students and open their eyes to new possibilities.
By equipping our students with “around-the-clock” access to technology and STEM-learning opportunities, we are empowering them to explore STEM careers and all the possibilities for building bright futures for themselves, their families, and the world.
At the start of the 2017-18 school year, the schools will host celebrations, during which school and district staff will distribute tablets to students and teachers. During the event, families will learn more about the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative and have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have regarding the project and their student’s participation. More details regarding the celebrations will be available at the start of the new school year.
