FBISD student-athletes honored at Spring Signing Day

Fort Bend ISD (April 30, 2025) – More than 100 student-athletes from 11 Fort Bend ISD high schools signed letters of intent to colleges and universities where they will continue their academic and athletic careers.

FBISD Director of Athletics Dena Scott welcomed attendees and recognized the athletic trainers, coaches and parents for their commitment and support.

“I am so excited to have you all here,” she said. “Students, your high school journey is ending, but your next journey is just beginning.”

FBISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Smith also addressed the students, offering words of encouragement and pride.

“You should not take for granted this awesome opportunity you have because not everybody has the opportunity you’re about to step into,” he said. "It is a great accomplishment, and you should be so very proud. You have already beaten the odds through your talent, through your hard work, and through your perseverance. I am very proud of you.”

Special guest former NFL player N.D. Kalu delivered a motivational message to the students.

“This is a day to celebrate your hard work,” Kalu said. “Those people behind you – they’re a big part of the reason you are here today. Make sure you thank them. It’s a team that got you here. And look in the mirror and thank yourself. It takes a special person to do what you’ve done.”

He told students that while college is exciting, it can also bring challenges.

“Fight through it,” Kalu said. “Even if you don’t make it to professional sports, you’re still going to be better for it because it’s going to prepare you for life.”
