Fort Bend ISD (April 11, 2025) - Fort Bend ISD’s 2025 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year are Ashley East, an Action-Based Learning instructor at Blue Ridge-Briargate Elementary, and Monique Williams, an upper-level math teacher at M.R. Wood Center for Learning.   

They were announced at the district’s annual Teacher of the Year banquet on April 10. 

“I was in complete shock,” East said when asked how it felt to hear her name called, “and then I felt overwhelming gratitude and excitement.”

Secondary Teacher of the Year Williams said she is honored to receive such a huge award for doing a job that rewards her every day. 

“Being around the kids and seeing them develop into productive citizens before they graduate high school is the best thing about teaching,” Williams said.

She added that she looks forward to teaching her students about, not just math, but technology and how to use it properly and productively.

Fort Bend ISD’s Teacher of the Year winners now advance to the regional Teacher of the Year competition, with an opportunity to move on to the Texas Teacher of the Year Program. 

“We are extremely fortunate to have so many outstanding teachers serving the students of Fort Bend ISD,” Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith said. “Ms. East and Ms. Williams set a daily standard of excellence and leadership in the classroom that we can all strive to emulate.”

The district’s finalists for Teacher of the year, along with Rookie Teachers of the Year and Principals of the Year were also honored at the banquet. Each Campus Teacher of the Year was recognized on stage as well.
