Hightower High School senior performs opening act for world-renowned motivational speaker on Broadway
Fort Bend ISD (January 13, 2025) – Hightower High School senior and spoken word artist Jade Coleman’s passion for empowering her peers earned her the opportunity to perform the opening act for world-renowned motivational speaker Lisa Nichols live in the Broadway series in Houston recently.
“My favorite part was being able to look out into the audience and feel my heart connect to theirs,” Coleman said. “Being on stage allows me to release my emotions in a creative way.”
Coleman first connected with Nichols during a summer camp where her poetry performance in a talent show gained the attention of Nichols.
“She told me she saw herself within me,” Coleman said. “I asked her to become my mentor and I formed a relationship with her.”
Coleman promotes hope, self-acceptance and individuality through various creative outlets including her motivational videos and poetry to teens who may be dealing with bullying and/or mental health issues.
“I know how it feels to not have someone be there for you or feel like you have no purpose, and I always wished I had someone to see and hear me,” Coleman said. “I feel called to be the voice for people who feel voiceless and show them that they have a place in this world.”
