Fort Bend ISD (November 22, 2024) – Fort Bend ISD Culinary Arts Instructor Joy Hunt makes an impact by combining hands-on learning with lessons in kindness and gratitude in her students.

Hunt has continued a five-year tradition at the James Reese Career and Technical Center where students prepare pies to show appreciation for their teachers ahead of Thanksgiving break.

Through this program, students hone their baking skills by creating a variety of cream, fruit and custard pies, all while learning the importance of caring for others.
 
Hunt also empowers her students to gain confidence in the kitchen.

“A lot of my favorite memories center around a kitchen, so it's important to me to get these students confident enough in their abilities to get in the kitchen and make memories with their families too,” Hunt shared.

Students added a personal touch by decorating pie boxes with handwritten messages of thanks.
