Almeta Crawford High School marks second school year with great achievements

Fort Bend ISD (November 22, 2024) – Almeta Crawford High School is thriving in its second school year, with great achievements and an expanding culture of excellence.

The school’s new slogan, Here We Grow Again, reflects the growth the campus has experienced this year with its first 11th grade class, additional staff and student accomplishments.

Student highlights include:

  • the Almeta Crawford band advanced to the UIL Area Marching Band Contest in Pflugerville in November
  • the Flairs Dance Team opened its season with a Division 1 rating in the Dance Drill Team Field Assessment from the Texas Dance Educators Association
  • Crawford’s inaugural varsity girls’ volleyball team advanced to the first round of UIL playoffs in October
  • the varsity football team advanced to the 4A playoffs in its first season of being eligible for UIL competition

Under the leadership of Principal Dr. Amber Grady and her administrative team - Associate Principal Deandria Brigham, Assistant Principal Walter Benavides, and Assistant Principal Brandon Woodard - the school has implemented best practices to support teachers, promote positive behavior and ensure student success.

For teachers, the administration has introduced daily classroom walkthroughs where teachers receive immediate feedback to refine their teaching practices.

For students, the school has implemented tardy stations to help reduce late arrivals and maintain clear hallways during teaching and learning periods, dress code and ID badge checks, and behavior agreements to reduce conflicts and foster a positive campus climate.

The school’s enrollment increased with the addition of 11th grade, growing from 627 students last year to 1,031 students this year. By next school year when grades 9-12 are in place, the campus expects to welcome another 300+ students with its newest freshman class.

“At Almeta Crawford, we are not just growing in numbers but in our ability to provide exceptional opportunities for our students,” Dr. Grady said. “It’s exciting to see the impact of our efforts as we build a legacy of excellence together.”
