Kempner HS yearbook staff receives highest rating from UIL
Fort Bend ISD (September 19, 2024) – Kempner High School’s yearbook staff recently received the Award of Distinguished Merit, the highest rating given to student publications by the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC), for the school’s 2024 yearbook, The Prowler.
ILPC is a division of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) which works to promote high standards and protect the integrity of journalism in education through contests, seminars, conventions and workshops.
“At first I was surprised,” yearbook editor Zahra Hasan said. “At the same time, I felt proud - not for me, but for the staff in general because they all worked really hard, and I felt proud of them.”
Among the items noted by the judges was The Prowler’s high-quality photography.
“We had really good photographers,” yearbook staff member Haylie Reyna said. “We had people who worked really hard at improving our storytelling. We had a lot of students reporting on a lot of events and I think that diversity shined through.”
Individual achievement awards were also given to students.
