Kempner HS AVID students named recipients of Linda Lorelle Scholarship

Fort Bend ISD (September 17, 2024) – Several Kempner High School AVID students were recipients of the 2023-24 Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund, earning six out of 10 available spots.

Recipients are Kristine Recio, Mariana Molina, Shams Al Kabalsy, Wesley Turner, Jeremiah Hughes and Syed Zaidi.

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college and beyond.

Students went through a rigorous application and interview process and were selected to receive scholarship money to the schools of their choice and additional supports including academic advising and mentorships.

In addition, the recipients travelled to New York City and visited the set of Good Morning America.

All six students were coached through the scholarship application process by Kempner’s AVID Elective teacher Alicia Stevenson.

The Linda Lorelle Scholarship Fund provides college scholarships, support and guidance to Houston area high school students in need of financial assistance, whose potential may be unfulfilled due to circumstances beyond their control. The fund bears the name of its founder who is a former Houston broadcast news veteran.
