New school in Mission Bend, Mission Glen communities celebrates ‘Topping Out’ ceremony
Fort Bend ISD (July 25, 2024) – A topping out ceremony took place this week at Fort Bend ISD’s new school being constructed in the Mission Bend, Mission Glen communities in southwest Houston as part of the 2023 Bond.
Topping out or topping off is when the last steel beam is put in place in the frame on a major construction project. The school is the first among the district’s 2023 Bond projects to celebrate the milestone.
Students who attend the Mission Bend-Glen Elementary School attended the ceremony at 16200 Beechnut and got to sign the beam before it was placed in the structure.
The students made remarks about how happy they are to be getting a new school. FBISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith, FBISD Board Vice President Rick Garcia and Trustees Angie Hanan and Adam Schoof also spoke to the crowd of about 200 – which included the construction crew. Fort Bend County Commissioner Dexter McCoy, a Fort Bend ISD alum, also spoke, as did Satterfield and Pontikes Construction Company executive John Marshall.
Meanwhile, at the new school being built on the Briargate Elementary site on the other side of the district at 15817 Blue Ridge Rd., the foundation is being poured.
The new $47 million campuses are set to open in time for the 2025-26 school year. They will house students from Mission Bend-Glen and from Blue Ridge-Briargate elementary schools.
