Fort Bend ISD (July 29, 2024) - Austin High School teacher Isabel Flores-Schrage was one of 24 distinguished educators chosen out of 175 applicants nationwide to participate in the Folger Shakespeare Company's 18th Teaching Shakespeare Institute this month in Washington D.C.

The program immersed the educators in an intensive study of The Taming of the Shrew and Othello alongside leading scholars and Folger classroom teachers who have extensive experience teaching Shakespeare, have participated in the institute themselves and authored curriculum for it.

Flores-Schrage and the other educators attended daily lectures, participated in seminars and studio performance classes, examined rare books and materials from Folger’s extensive collection, and attended curricular workshops designed to bring Shakespeare's works into their classrooms in innovative ways.

Each of the selected teachers received a stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities for travel and lodging expenses.
