At Monday’s Board Agenda Review Meeting, the board voted to meet with the superintendent search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates next Monday on June 14 to revise the search schedule.
Initially the plan was for interviews to begin taking place in June. During the meeting, the Board voted to update the superintendent search timeline. We will keep you updated.
I also want to share an update on the District’s plans for a Virtual Learning Program, which unfortunately cannot move forward because the Texas Legislature did not pass House Bill 1468 giving school districts authority to continue offering remote learning next year.
Fort Bend ISD had anticipated serving K-12 students who are medically documented to be at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. Being unable to move forward with the virtual program is a disappointing development that may create frustration and anxiety for some parents, guardians and students.
Please know that District staff are evaluating what options may be available, including homebound services for students who are eligible. We have made the board aware of the change, as well as parents and guardians who indicated interest in having their students participate in the virtual program.
Before I go, I want to say Congratulations to the Class of 2021. We are so proud of all our graduates. At times, we had to contend with some inconvenient circumstances brought on by weather and traffic but when it was all said and done, we were able to celebrate our seniors for their hard work, dedication and perseverance.
Our Profile of a Graduate was on full display at all our ceremonies. I want to thank all our educators from Pre-K to 12th grade who faithfully taught, guided, mentored and emotionally invested in our graduating seniors to help them achieve their goals. Graduation is a tribute to our entire FBISD community - we salute you, your professionalism, sacrifice and support.
