Fort Bend ISD Reimagined: 2020-21 Planning Update #3 (6/23/2020)

FORT BEND ISD (June 23, 2020) – As promised, I am writing to provide a timely update regarding planning for next school year. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) provided important guidance today about how they will fund online instruction – both synchronous and asynchronous.  In short, they have committed to funding online learning when teachers engage students in real-time online and when students use technology resources to do work on their own time. This new information will enable us to continuing developing online plans for fall.

 

Unfortunately, today’s guidance did not address what I know many of us are most interested in – any directive or guidance on how to keep students and staff safe when they return to school for in-person instruction. This is understandable because we know that we are very much still in the throes of the pandemic, but also disappointing because we cannot finalize plans until we have that important information. While TEA did not specifically indicate when they expect to provide this information, we expect it will be in the near future.

 

This is a limited updated, but I wanted to keep you up-to-date as things develop. In Fort Bend ISD, we have been busy preparing to transform the way we operate and support students, because we know that the spread of COVID-19 will not end overnight. Even after we reopen – in any capacity – it is very possible that we will have to make further adjustments if there is a reported illness on a campus or work site.

  • We are carefully considering all factors to ensure that we are able to address physical and mental health, as well as instruction.
  • We will carefully review all feedback you have provided so that we can make the best decisions for our community.

Our students are depending on us to lead them to futures beyond what they can imagine – and together, we will do just that.
