Safety reminder and prayers for our extended family in Santa Fe (5/18/2018)
Today, Fort Bend ISD grieves with our neighbors in Santa Fe. Our students come to school each day to learn and grow as individuals, and tragedies like this are unimaginable. This morning, I shared this message with our staff to express my sincere appreciation of their own efforts to keep students safe. Our students and staff work together each and every day to keep our schools safe.
As we mourn today’s loss, these efforts continue. I truly appreciate your partnership, and the trust you place with us each day to protect and support your most treasured gifts.
I am heartbroken to have to write this message, as I know we have all been deeply affected by today’s tragedy at Santa Fe High School. My prayers are with all of our neighbors in the Santa Fe community, including the teachers and administrators who witnessed the unimaginable and were forced to take immediate action to keep their students and their fellow educators safe. They did what any of you would do, and I want to assure you that we will continue to stand firm in our resolve to do everything in our power to protect our students.
I know safety is on your mind every day, but I want to again remind you to be extra vigilant and attentive to anything that looks concerning or out of the ordinary. Our FBISD Police Department and area police forces are on high alert today, and are prepared to move quickly if needed. As the school year comes to a close, we will continue to remain vigilant to protect and support our students. We are also continuing the important conversations that we began earlier this spring to ensure we are doing all we can to keep our school communities safe and secure for our students and staff.
I truly appreciate everything you do each and every day to support and protect our students. Today, my thoughts are with you as well as our neighbors. I appreciate your partnership, your efforts and your continued support.
