Academies
A highly competitive educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of the army, the navy, air force or coast guard, which normally provides education in a service environment. Academies cover all educational and living expense in exchange for 5 years military service as an officer after graduation. Selection into the Academies often requires a congressional nomination, athletic ability, and high academic achievement.

Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)A college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States armed forces. The ROTC does offer a scholarship that helps with educational expenses. Check university ROTC websites for details. Each military branch will have their own ROTC scholarship page (

EnlistingEnlisting in active duty of the military (
Navy,
Army,
Air Force,
Coast Guard,
National Guard, or
Marines) or in the reserves requires a commitment for 4-5 years. Visit your College and Career Center on your campus to speak to a representative of the military.
