Mrs. Yvonne Leija-Leroux

I am Yvonne Leija-Leroux and I have the pleasure of teaching your child this academic school year. I was born and raised in Edcouch, Texas, a small rural town in the Rio Grande Valley. Although I lived in Edcouch, I attended Mission CISD schools (Home of Tom Landry). After graduating from Mission High School, I attended the University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas, where I was a member of the Baylor College of Medicine Premedical Honors Program. I graduated with Honors Distinction and a Biology/Chemistry Bachelor of Science degree.

Prior to pursuing a career in teaching, I was involved in scientific research at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio testing the effects of drugs on breast and pancreatic cancer cells. I then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch, School of Medicine in Galveston, Texas.

This is my very first year at the Castle! I have taught at Bush High School in FBISD for nine years and also in LCISD.  I have taught Biology I Academic, Honors, Pre-AP and Biology 2 AP in my years of teaching. I am currently teaching Biology I AAC and Biology I Advanced.

My husband, Bryan, was part of the first 4-year graduating class at Elkins High School, and now we've made the move to have our children attend his alma mater. Our two daughters, Madison and Peyton, are active athletes and therefore, keep us extremely busy.  In the spare time that I have (insert laugh here) I enjoy reading, playing tennis, traveling, yelling at soccer refs bad calls (:D), and most importantly, spending quality time with my family.

I look forward to a successful school year and very much look forward to building new partnerships with parents and the Elkins community. An email would be the best way to reach me.
