Cross country is a running sport in which teams and individuals run a race on natural terrain like grass, dirt, gravel, or a combination of them. High school courses are 2-3 miles long depending on the level of competition (Varsity - 3.1 miles long or 5km, Sub-Varsity - 2 miles or 3.2 km). It is an individual and a team sport; runners are judged on individual times and teams by a points-scoring method based on race finish. Teams with the lowest score wins.
Important Information
2025 Summer Running Info:
Summer running is essential to setting up a successful competition season in the fall. Most running during the summer is referred to as base running. Essentially, you are building up stamina and endurance to race in the fall. Summer running is based on the amount of experience and competitive level each athlete has. The Calendar on this page will have the workout schedules posted on it. Runners will run 4 days a week and have 2 days of cycling, swimming, or other cardio-based workout. Once mandatory practices start in late summer, we start addressing issues like speed.
