Online Original Credit Distance Learning Guidelines
These guidelines apply to courses taken for original high school credit.
Counselor approval is required prior to student registration and payment.
FBISD Approved Providers
FBISD Approved External Providers for Original Credit
- The University of Texas at Austin ($200-$250 per ½ credit plus materials)
- Texas Tech University ($200-$250 per ½ credit plus materials)
- TXVSN (Texas Virtual School Network) ($350-$400 per ½ credit plus materials)
FBISD Course Frequency Limitations
Regular School Semester (Fall or Spring)- .5 credit per semester
Summer – 1.0 total credit during the summer
FBISD Credit Limitations
- UT and TTU – 2.0 total high school credits throughout high school but limited to frequency detailed above.
- TXVSN – Students may take as many TXVSN courses as they would like during high school but are limited as to frequency, which is detailed above.
FBISD Course Limitations
Most courses offered by all three external providers are considered available for high school credit, including AAC courses, and AP courses.
FBISD Deadlines
High school seniors must complete any courses taken through external online providers and submit grade reports by the end of the fall semester of their graduating year.
All students who take online original credit courses over the summer break are expected to finish their coursework prior to the beginning of the next fall semester.
FBISD Rules for Awarding Credit
- The District shall record weighted 100 point scale, weighted 4.0 scale, and the unweighted 4.0 GPA on student transcripts.
- All courses recorded on the academic achievement record (high school transcript) shall count toward GPA and class rank using the grades received, with the exception of courses taken on a GPA-exempt basis.
- Beginning with the class of 2029, any credits earned through virtual learning beyond the first two shall not count towards class rank or GPA.
