Online Original Credit Distance Learning Guidelines

These guidelines apply to courses taken for original high school credit.

 

Counselor approval is required prior to student registration and payment.

 

FBISD Approved Providers

 

FBISD Approved External Providers for Original Credit

  • The University of Texas at Austin ($200-$250 per ½ credit plus materials)
  • Texas Tech University ($200-$250 per ½ credit plus materials)
  • TXVSN (Texas Virtual School Network) ($350-$400 per ½ credit plus materials)

 

FBISD Course Frequency Limitations

 

Regular School Semester (Fall or Spring)- .5 credit per semester

Summer – 1.0 total credit during the summer

 

FBISD Credit Limitations

 

  • UT and TTU – 2.0 total high school credits throughout high school but limited to frequency detailed above. 
  • TXVSN – Students may take as many TXVSN courses as they would like during high school but are limited as to frequency, which is detailed above.

 

FBISD Course Limitations

 

Most courses offered by all three external providers are considered available for high school credit, including EOC courses, AAC courses, and AP courses. Exceptions are noted on the back of this sheet.

 

FBISD Deadlines

 

High school seniors must complete any courses taken through external online providers and submit grade reports by the end of the fall semester of their graduating year.

 

All students who take online original credit courses over the summer break are expected to finish their coursework prior to the beginning of the next fall semester. 

 

FBISD Rules for Awarding Credit

 

  • Courses taken through an approved online provider are included in student GPA.
  • Courses will be awarded grade points consistent with the grade points specified by FBISD.

 

Dulles High School Campus Guidelines Regarding Distance Learning

 

ELA

 

  • Students may not take AP English Language prior to the end of their 10th grade year.
  • Students may not take AP English Literature prior to the end of their 11th grade year.

 

Science

 

  • Students are advised not to take the following laboratory courses through an external provider because the rigor of the online course will not be equivalent to the rigor of the course offered at Dulles High School and the lab component will not be adequate.  Students could face difficulty when taking classes at DHS for which these courses are prerequisites:

AAC Biology

AAC Chemistry

AP Chemistry

AP Physics 1

AP Physics 2

AP Physics C

AP Biology

 

 

Social Studies

 

  • Students who take AP Human Geography (YL) or AAC World Geography through an external provider will not take AP or regular World History prior to 10th grade.
  • Students who take AP World History through an external provider will not take AP or regular US History prior to 11th grade. 

 

Math

  • Students are advised not to take the following courses through an external provider because the rigor of the online course will not be equivalent to the rigor of the course offered at Dulles High School.  Students could face difficulty when taking classes at DHS for which these courses are prerequisites:

AAC Geometry

AAC Algebra II

AAC or AP Precalculus

AP Calculus AB

AP Calculus BC
