Mrs. Kimberly Bolt

Welcome to George Bush High School Visual Arts program!

I am very passionate about the visual arts and the difference the arts make in our lives.  According to the late Elliot Eisner, visual arts teaches students that small differences can have large effects, encourage and celebrate multiple perspectives and viewpoints, and teach complex forms of problem-solving where purposes are seldom fixed but change with circumstance and opportunity. Developing creative and divergent thinking as well as problem-solving skills are practiced daily in the art classroom.  Students often say that this is “just art”, but in reality, they can learn so much more with an open mindset.  In fact, many of the skills and abilities are valued by future employers and educational organizations, such as developing observational and problem-solving skills.

My hope is that my students will find their passion and path forward during their high school years. Not everyone is going to pursue a career in the visual arts, but the skills, knowledge, and thinking abilities can be transferred into other areas of the students’ life.  It is my honor and great pleasure to work with students in the art classroom to help them develop their full potential.  I encourage all students to be engaged in something that inspires them to become the people they are going to be.

Prior to my teaching career, I was a Registered Interior Designer for ten years and have worked for several large architectural firms and commercial furniture dealers designing corporate interiors, and have been in facilities management at several large corporations.  My design career was put on hold to move Jakarta, Indonesia, for seven years and Stavanger, Norway, for three years.  During that time, I enjoyed raising my two sons and volunteering as room mother, Tiger Cub Scout leader, and art room helper! While living abroad I had the opportunity to visit some wonderful museums and historical sites throughout Europe and Southeast Asia.  Through these opportunities, I learned many things about different cultures around the world. Experiences from travel continue to influence my artwork and my perspective.

This is my fourteen year teaching visual arts in Fort Bend Independent School District.  This is my eighth year teaching at George Bush High School.  I taught all levels of art at David Crockett Middle School for sixth years prior to coming to Bush High School.  It has been a pleasure to serve and work with this community of young artists.

My spare time is spent with my wonderful husband, two adult sons, and a large extended family. My hobbies are creating different types of artwork, traveling, taking photographs, Interior Design and scuba diving. These are all experiences that I will pull into the classroom to enhance the learning process.
