Hello, My name is Mr. Donavon and I am originally from Toledo, Ohio. I am a graduate of Bowling Green State University. An interesting fact about myself is that I currently hold two teaching certificates, one from Ohio and the other from Texas. I moved down to Houston back in August 2021. I took my first teaching job working at Hoffman Middle School in Aldine ISD. During my time at Hoffman Middle School, I taught 8th grade early U.S. History as well as 7th grade Texas History. In addition, I would also be nominated as rookie teacher of the year in 2021. While I enjoyed my time at Hoffman Middle and had an impact on the students I encountered each day, I wanted to move on and take an opportunity to teach at a high school. I started working for George Bush High School in the 2023-2024 school year. In my first year at George Bush, while teaching various social studies classes, I also took my first coaching position as JVB boys soccer coach. In addition, I am also a sponsor for Chess Club, where I am responsible for coordinating tournaments where students will participate in the Houston Area. In August 2024, I started a new varsity sport for George Bush High School boys' Water Polo. My motive for starting the Water Polo program at Bush is to give students more opportunities to be part of an extracurricular activity and I can help develop them not only with the game of water polo, but to also teach them life skills such as good sportsmanship and how to battle through adversity the right way. My goal for this year is to put together a girls' water polo team for next school year. When I am not teaching or coaching, I enjoy the following activities: cooking, traveling, spending time with family, watching college and pro football, being active in either running, biking, and weight lifting. I look forward to working with all the students to have them become successful, not only in school but also in life.
