AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Established more than 30 years ago with one teacher in one classroom, AVID today impacts more than 800,000 students in 44 states and 16 other countries and territories. AVID prepares students by enrolling them in rigorous courses levels such as honors, Pre-AP (Advanced Placement), and Advanced Placement.
AVID has been a staple in Fort Bend ISD for many years and is branching out dramatically to include more middle schools and elementary schools as well. BHS is fortunate to have middle schools that feed into it that offer AVID and this allows for our students to be a successful as possible. The AVID Program is available at Bush, Elkins, Hightower, Kempner, Marshall, Travis, and Willowridge high Schools as well as Sugarland, Crockett, Hodges Bend, Missouri City and McAuliffe middle schools.
