AVID Recruitment Guidelines for 2025-2026

If you are interested in participating in the AVID college and career readiness program at George Bush High School for the 2020-2021 school year, please review the following information.

Please understand that acceptance into the AVID program is based on the information provided in the application, attendance, discipline, academics, recommendation from your AVID teacher (if you are currently in AVID) as well as an interview.

Also, understand that you must be selected. You are not guaranteed acceptance regardless if you are currently an AVID student, filled out the application, or participate in an interview.

Participating in the AVID program is a four-year commitment that may require summer school at some point, as well as required enrollment in at least one advanced placement (AP) class.

If you are accepted into the AVID program, you will have to agree to the following statements.

• I agree to enroll in the AVID class for the entire academic year.
• I agree to take notes in all my core subject areas as required in AVID
• I agree to keep my work organized as required by AVID.
• I agree to maintain good attendance and be punctual for all my classes.
• I agree to participate fully in tutorials as required by AVID.
• I agree to participate in field trips, college visitation and other AVID activities where you meet the qualifications.
• I agree to keep my parents fully informed of AVID program activities.
• I agree to complete all my assignments in all classes, including AVID.
• I agree to ask for help, talk to my AVID teacher or counselor if necessary.
• I agree to keep a positive attitude and be enthusiastic about preparing for college.
