National Math Honor Society

  • When Mu Alpha Theta was founded in 1957, Dr. Richard Andree wished to create an organization that would recognize strong scholarship in mathematics and promote interest and enjoyment in the subject. Now, more than 60 years later, Mu Alpha Theta is known and recognized worldwide, with over 118,000 members in more than 2,400 chapters.

    Eligibility:

    • Completion of at least two collegiate-level math courses with a math GPA of 3.0 or better (final average 80+ in each course)
      • Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Cal, Stats, Calculus, Dual Credit College Algebra, AQR
    • Freshmen can join as Junior Members if they completed Algebra 1 in middle school and are currently enrolled in Geometry and are in "good standing" with their current math teacher.
    • Maintain a 3.0+ Math GPA
    • Enrollment in a higher level math course

    Activites:

    • Throughout the year, members participate in national contests, namely the Log1 and Math Minutes Video. Details of those can be found on our promotional video.

    Meetings

    • Monday afternoon, Room N-108, 3 – 3:30 pm
    • Mandatory participation is required to earn a cord

    Dues

    • Annually $20 – includes one-time induction fee, certificate of membership, and a club t-shirt
    • Senior Grad Attire $15 – honor cord, lapel pin, diploma seal
