Kempner Yearbook Receives Top Rating for 2024 Yearbook
Sugar Land, TX – Kempner High School’s Prowler yearbook staff recently received the Award of Distinguished Merit from the Interscholastic League Press Conference.
The staff earned this distinction for their work on the 2024 yearbook. The Award of Distinguished Merit is the highest rating given to student publications by ILPC, the division of UIL devoted to promoting and protecting scholastic journalism.
Yearbook staff received their evaluation on August 27, 2024.
“At first I was surprised,” junior Zahra Hasan, editor of the 2024 yearbook, said. “At the same time, I felt proud - not for me, but for the staff in general because they all worked really hard and I felt proud of them.”
The judge emphasized the Prowler’s high-quality photography in the evaluation.
“We had really good photographers,” senior Haylie Reyna, who also worked on the 2024 yearbook, said. “We had people who worked really hard at improving our storytelling. We had a lot of students reporting on a lot of events and I think that diversity shined through.”
